Calendering processes would be substantially improved in practice, if the fundamental correlations of the interacting process, machine and paper parameters could be con-trolled. The complex interrelations force one to find calender settings by trial and error to avoid defects and to obtain optimal paper surface textures in gloss and smoothness. In this respect it is desirable to predict the expected calendering result with given parameters using theoretical methods.
