Steel makers hike prices by Rs 800-1,200 a tonne

STEEL makers have decided to align their pricing strategy in line with the global trend and most companies have hiked their prices between Rs 800 per tonne and Rs 1,200 per tonne. So long, they were under pressure from the government's anti-inflationary measures to maintain stable prices. Most steel companies, including Tata Steel, SAIL and Ispat, have already hiked product prices by Rs 800-1,200 per tonne on various grades of steel. What is worth a mention, however, is that Budget 2007-08 has been reasonably successful in keeping steel prices under control even after this hike.
