Jindals stand by promise of shares, jobs for land-losers

Though the West Bengal government's agreement with Sajjan Jindal's JSW Bengal Steel Ltd on setting up a 10-million tonne steel plant at Salboni in West Midnapore has no mention of job offers or equity shares for land-losers, the Jindals are standing by their promise. When contacted, Biswadip Gupta, CEO of JSW Bengal Steel, said: "We stand by the commitment made by Mr Sajjan Jindal." Gupta, when asked about reports that Union finance minister P Chidambaram is against the issue of shares to land-losers, said the Jindals are discussing the legalities with the Securities & Exchange Board of India and the Company Law Board."
