Tata Steel to allow Tata Power run Haldia plant…

TATA Steel's board has taken a decision to hand over the job of operating a 120 mw plant being set up by Hooghly Met Coke & Power Company Ltd (HMCPCL) in Haldia to Tata Power Ltd (TPL) With this, TPL is slated to enter into power generation in West Bengal. HMCPL is a JV between Tata Steel and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation. This was announced during the brick-laying ceremony of HMCPCL in Haldia, which was conducted by Nirupam Sen, minister-in-charge of commerce and industry, West Bengal, in the presence of Dr T Mukherjee, deputy managing director (steel) of Tata Steel and Binay Singh, managing director of HMCPCL among others. This JV agreement for the project was signed on January 12,2005.
