SAIL: Lower volumes, high input prices depress profits

The revenue and profit margins of steel maker SAIL have taken a hard blow in the December 2008 quarter. Both sales (down 7 per cent) and net profit numbers (down 56 per cent) were worse than the market expectations. A decline in volume sales, fall in the end-product prices and still-high input prices contributed to the profit fall.
