Captive mines to steel cos ruled out

New Delhi: It's goodbye to captive iron ore mines for steel makers in India, should pure economic rationale prevail. The government is on the threshold of announcing a new mining and mineral policy, based on the Hoda Committee report, which acknowledges that allocation of captive mines to steel makers compromises growth of the mining sector. According to government sources, the Hoda Committee, set up by the Planning Commission under the leadership of Anwarul Hoda to give a new direction to the country's mining sector, is likely to present these findings to the PMO next week.
