SAIL shines on higher sale, net rises 10% to Rs533 crore

Rifling on higher sales despite a 'flat market', the country's largest steel producer, Steel Authority of India (SAIL), on Friday reported a 10 % jump in the net profit to Rs533 crore for the third quarter compared with Rs484 crore in the same period last year. The company approved an interim dividend for its shareholders at 20.2 % of the paid-up capital, against the interim dividend of 16% last year. The total turnover of SAIL grew 8 % at Rs12,716 crore in the third quarter compared witth Rs11,801 crore in the corresponding period last year. Total sales of steel products rose 7% at 2.94 million tonne (MT), the company said, adding its plants continued to perform robustly.
