摘要

The government has decided to further tighten norms for metal scrap imports after it received 1,400 applications from suppliers across the world. To check any repetition of a blast that occurred two years back at the Bhushan Steel plant in Ghaziabad, it has amended its earlier notification requiring prospective suppliers to se-cufeapre-shipmentinspection certificate. This it has done by laying down the exact clearances they require. From April 1,2007, the suppliers will also need to register themselves with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. The new norms require explicit certification that import consignments do not contain any arms and ammunition and adhere to internationally accepted parameters. To track the origin and names of importers and exporters, the government has now explicitly banned high-sea (before customs clearance) sales.
