摘要

New Delhi: It's goodbye to captive iron ore mines for steel makers in India, should pure economic rationale prevail. Government is on the threshold of announcing a new mining and mineral policy, based on the Hoda Committee report, which acknowledges that allocation of captive mines to steel makers compromises growth of the mining sector. According to government sources, the Hoda Committee, setup by the Planning Commission under the leadership of Anwarul Hoda to give a new direction to the country's mining sector, is likely to present these findings to the PMO next week. However, the report, already delayed considerably, is facing additional turbulence on account of the steel ministry.
