A majority of production traits have a multifactorial background, since they are controlled by environmental factors as well as an unknown number of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) (Andersson, 2001): The large number of microsatellite markers linked to bovine economic traits provides an opportunity to use them in marker-assisted selection (Boichard et al., 2003). Moreover, numerous SNPs can be used in cattle breeding programs. Recently a microarray approach for studying such SNPs was developed by Kaminski et al. (2005).
