Unit productivity of cows and the costs of milk production

The paper constitutes an attempt to calculate the standard unit costs of milk production, depending on individual productivity of cows during the years 1995-1999. The calculations included 5 options of milk production costs, i.e. for the productivityof 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 thousand dm~3 of milk. On the basis of the calculations the function of unit cost was approximated, depending on individual productivity. Analyzing the course of variability of the function, the optimum volume of production was established taking into account the level of unit costs. The unit cost functions obtained in the study were also used for the calculation of the sensitivity coefficient, which defines changes in costs depending on fluctuations in the productivity of individual cows. At the final stage, the net profit was calculated. It was increasing with a gain in productivity within the range from 2000 to 6000 dm~3.
