Society of Economic Geologists Ralph W. Marsden Award for 2001 Citation of Bruce A. Bouley

President Dummett, members and friends of the Society of Economic Geologists: All of us are together today due mainly to the efforts of Bruce Bouley. His foresight, dedication, and hands-on direction of all of this meeting's planning, organization, program, and field trips over the past four years were key to its success. Bruce attended his last of its many Planning Committee meetings last August, only a week before losing a 15-month battle with cancer. He had promised SEG to lead this meeting through to a successful conclusion and he never gave up He was unfailingly sustained during those difficult months by the enduring love and support of his wife Alice, whom many of us know through her work with the Society. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Bruce earned a B.Sc. at Bates College, Maine, an M.Sc. at Wesleyan University, Connecticut, and a Ph.D. at University of Western Ontario, Ontario, Canada. His prime interest was the geology of ore deposits, especially exploration for them, the last reflected in the title of this meeting, Global Exploration 2002: Integrated Methods for Discovery. During his 35-year career, Bruce progressed from junior field to senior management positions with Midwest Oil, Phelps Dodge, Callahan Mining, Cominco, BHP and North Star Exploration.
