Not a very new question; however, there are as many different opinions, ideas, recommendations and policy strategies to this question as there are players around. There is an organic movement with a certification system (IFOAM and IOAS), that puts itsfocus clearly on the environmental aspects of agricultural production. Besides this, and through its development quite distinct from the organic movement, there is a Fairtrade movement, with its respective networks and certification system (FLO, IFAT, News! and EFTA-FINE), that focuses mainly on social and economic aspects, and especially on marginalized and disadvantaged fanners and workers in developing countries.
