SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF THE COMMUNES OF THE PROVINCE OF WARMIA-MAZURY AIDED WITH MEASURES AND CONTOURS OF DEPTH

One of the most contentious issues in the statistical analysis of data concerning social-economical phenomena for distinguished spatial units is their correct classification. This data is often influenced by atypical observations, which shows that theinvestigated units often reveal significant diversity among each other in the values of some features. One of the ways to apply resistance methods to the classification of spatial units is the use of Tukey's explorative analysis (TuKEY 1975). To illustrate the application of measures and contours of depth for classifying spatial units, a general description in one- and two-dimensional depiction and a practical illustration using numerical data concerning the rural communes of the province of Warmia-Mazury in 1998 was completed. The description of the methods is limited to the most important aspects of their practical application.
