Stuttgart digs deep for cathedral of the train

Ingenhoven Overdiek Kahlen und Partner, Frei Otto, and Buro Happold with Leonhardt Andra und Partner are taking forward their prize-winning competition entry for the redevelopment of Stuttgart Railway Station, Germany. The unanimous decision from the jury was made after the assessment of four shortlisted entries. The successful team was unique in proposing the preservation of the Schlossgarten Central Park, a 'green lung' greatly valued by those who live and work in Stuttgart. This is achieved by locating the infrastructure of the station below ground.
