摘要

Nuclesr power was going strong iri 1979 - and I'd been working at Portland General Electric's Trojan nuclear plant for three years - when the accident at Three Mile Island (TMI) damaged public trust and cast grave doubts over the industry's future. Indeed, TMI was perhaps the biggest challenge of the time for electric utilities, which relied on nuclear power for 11.3 percent of the nation's total capacity.
