This paper is about a certain global approach toward unstable homotopy theory. It has grown out of recent work of Bousfield [2,3] and Dror Farjoun [7-9], and has been developed by the latter in his recent book [9]. The key roles are played by two geometric relations between spaces which are associated to two ways of "building" one space from another; Let A be a space.
