摘要

Interest in restoring wetlands in the mid-continent of North America has increased in recent decades, in response to concerns ahout degraded water quality, altered hydrology, flood control, and loss of aquatic biodiversity. Since the mid-1980s, federal and state programs {for example, the Conservation Reserve Program, Wetland Reserve Program, Prairie Pothole Joint Venture, Reinvest in Minnesota) have provided incentives for landowners to voluntarily restore several thousand prairie glacial wetlands in the United States. In addition, federal and state laws now mandate that losses of existing wetlands must be avoided or mitigated.
