Wetland Habitats of North America: Ecology and Conservation Concerns, edited by D.P. Batzer and A.H. Baldwin, is an impressive systematic review of the continent's major wetland types from the Neotropics to the tundra. The editors enlisted 81 contributing authors, including many of the principal authorities on North American wetland ecosystems. In each chapter, the authors profile a single wetland habitat type or geographic area. The editors' goal for the book was to summarize recent literature on the ecology and conservation of North American wetland habitats for a broad audience, including students, educators, researchers, managers, and policy makers. In my opinion, they have succeeded.
