Petrobras and Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PdVSA) have discovered a large deposit of oil sands on the Carabobo 1 block of the Orinoco River Basin, according to the latter's President Rafael Ramirez."We started in Carabobo 1... we thought we were going to find 80ft (24m) of oil sands, and we found 240ft (73m)," he said at the Latin America Petroleum Show.The Venezuelan state-owned major has teamed up with Petrobras and other players such as Iran's Petrobars and Russia's Lukoil to try and firm up new heavy oil reserves in the Orinoco River Basin.
