Architecture is viewed by many as being closer to art than engineering, and certainly deceiving the eye is one of the skills building designers have used down the ages. Stucco, for instance, was employed by famous architects such as Nash to mimic masonry, while other materials like marble, hardwoods and even gold have been routinely faked down the centuries.
