BP's ageing Schiehallion FPSO is to be replaced within six years in the UK West of Shetlands region with a new more advanced floating production unit capable of greater oil recovery from the field area. Replacing the FPSO is considered more economic than modifying the existing unit, which was installed back in 1998, and a new FPSO will have to work with the extensive subsea hardware already installed at the field in UK Block 204/20a at a water depth of 1,394ft (425m), delegates at the Pilot Share Fair held in Aberdeen were told.
