Canada's Verenex Energy is a takeover target for state-owned China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) in a US $396.6m deal as the Chinese giant aims to boost its African portfolio. Shares of Verenex, which has a 50% stake in a block in Libya's Ghadames Basin, were up 23.5% on the Toronto Stock Exchange on the news.
