VCI: Rail closure in southwestern Germany to cause major disruption

The closure of the Rhine valley railway at Rastatt in southwestern Germany until the beginning of October will cause considerable problems for chemical companies in terms of obtaining raw materials and in delivering chemicals to customers, according to the chemi- cal industry association VCI (Frankfurt). Although about 50 of shipments can be shipped by rail using alternative routes, chemical companies must try to shift the other half on to barges or trucks.
