Chemical engineers use mathematics as a language to describe the chemical and physical behavior of processes. Mathematical "sentences" can describe how nature works, and translating one such sentence into English might produce: "If crude oil is catalytically heated to 700°F [371℃] at 500psi. then the gasoline content will be 26%." Such mathematical descriptions can be rearranged to answer questions.
