Continuously improving acquisition technology and carefully designed processing workflows enable consistent right-time delivery of time-lapse seismic measurements from marine towed-streamer systems. Time-lapse (4-D) seismic data has become an integral component of the production strategy for many hydrocarbon reservoirs around the world, and reservoir engineers have come to depend on the information it provides when making critical reservoir decisions. Results from new monitor surveys are frequently required soon after acquisition, but the processing of time-lapse seismic data often can be time-consuming, causing delays that reduce its value. Permanent time-lapse monitoring systems can deliver results in short timeframes, but not all fields can justify the financial outlay required for such systems. Advancements in acquisition technology, combined with careful attention to workflows, are enabling the routine delivery of time-lapse seismic results from marine towed-streamer surveys in similar timeframes to those achieved by permanent systems.
