For years, process plant integrated operations (IO) has been handled the same way: field wiring is routed in prepackaged bundles or cables into one side of a marshalling cabinet where it is connected to long terminal strips. Control system IO connections enter the cabinet from the other side and connect to their own long terminal strips. Then, the control system IO points are connected to their corresponding field wires by running individual wires between the terminal strips. The result is neat wiring on each side and spaghetti wiring in between that is not easy to keep track of and can be hard to troubleshoot.
