In 2011 the Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA) was introduced to update and govern the supply of geographic data to public sector organisations in England and Wales. With 750 organisation members, and provision for thousands more, including schools, town and parish councils, search-and-rescue organisations and third parties working on government projects, it has been suggested that the PSMA will result in significant costs savings and greater data sharing.
