WATER FOR LIFE WHITE PAPER

On 8 December 2011, DEFRA published the 'Water for Life' White Paper which sets out how they envisage the future for water management. The White Paper covers a Lot of ground, including a review of Ofwat, and responses to both the Cave and Walker Reviews. This note focuses in particular on the fourth chapter which examines 'Planning and building forthe future'. The White Paper itself contains little detail in terms of implementation of any ofthe measures put forward. Rather, it is a broad brush set of statements, setting out how the Government intends to deal with, amongst other things, planning policy in relation to the water industry.
