The contribution of science in meeting the global challenges of food supply and security is becom-ing ever more important. We face adaptation to the warming Earth as a consequence of human impact and increasing trade and tourism means that threats from invasive species through breaches of biosecurity become more important. There is also a growing drive to produce food with minimal environmental impacts, and food quality and nutritional benefits are influencing consumer choices.
