This issue of Building Engineer is focusing on sustainability - the capacity to endure. There is probably not a universally accepted definition of sustainability because it is expected to achieve many things but one definition is 'sustainability is improving the quality of human life while living within the carrying capacity of supporting eco-systems'. It is also a call to action so some definitions set out common goals and values.
