Controlled-pressure drilling encompasses managed-pressure and underbalanced techniques to mitigate hazards that cause non-productive time. The theory and practice of oilwell drilling continue to evolve. Recently, Jose Morales, US technical manager of controlled-pressure drilling and testing services for Weatherford International, did an outstanding job of bringing a room full of SPE and AADE members and guests up to date on the latest thinking in what Weatherford terms "controlled-pressure drilling" or CPD.
