Violent volcanic eruption in the Pacific ring of fire has created some of the most complex geology on earth. The best efforts of petrophysicists and engineers are required to evaluate the hydrocarbon reservoirs in the region. Finding hydrocarbons in the region known as the ring of fire is difficult enough, but when the traditional rules of formation evaluation are bent out of shape by the presence of volcanic rocks, an innovative approach is required.
