The introduction of WesternGeco DSC Dynamic Spread Control technology within the Q-Marine seismic acquisition system has greatly improved the repeatability of in-sea equipment positioning - a key element in enabling operators to more accurately monitor reservoir fluid changes. Repeatability is key to the effectiveness of 4-D time-lapse projects, whereby surveys are repeated after a period of hydrocarbon production, typically one to two years. Changes in reservoir fluid content and/or pressure can lead to changes in the seismic signal, so mapping differences between two vintages of seismic survey can indicate where hydrocarbon movement has taken place and identify as-yet untapped compartments.
