摘要

Most of the expense of completing a deepwater well is in the high cost associated with the mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) and surface support equipment. For the initial completion, this cost is unavoidable, but for a well that may have more than one promising production zone, the traditional completion model requiring mechanical well intervention to access additional zones quickly becomes uneconomical and time-consuming. To solve the problem, deepwater operators are increasingly turning to "intelligent" well completion systems, which allow them to complete multiple zones during the initial completion phase, then selectively and remotely produce individual zones to maximize overall production and hydrocarbon recovery.
