ENGINEERING FUTURE INDUSTRIALISTS AT UTC SOUTH DURHAM

The first UTC (University Technical College) to open in the North East, UTC South Durham in Newton AycLiffe, specialises in advanced engineering and manufacturing, providing specialist education to young people aged 14-19 with ambitions to enter employment or higher education in these sectors. The ?10 million scheme opened its doors to its first intake of students in September 2016. Designed by Ryder Architecture in a project delivered by WilLmott Dixon under the Scape Major Works Framework, the UTC scheme has a services installation designed in BIM by TGA Consulting Engineers in Durham, to a performance specification by Anderson Green. Construction of the three-storey UTC building was funded by the EFA (Education Funding Agency) and the college is supported by both the University of Sunderland and private sector partners, Hitachi and Gestamp.
