BUILDING THE RNLI'S NEW CENTRE OF ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE

The ground works phase of the project to build the RNLI's new All-weather Lifeboat Centre in Dorset utilised many best practice methods in sustainabLe construction. Making efficient use of available resources and reducing waste minimised the project's impact on the environment and led to cost savings for the life-saving charity. A new facility, designed to be a world-class centre of engineering excellence, is currently being built in Poole, Dorset, on behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The RNLI All-weather Lifeboat Centre (ALC) will enable the charity to produce its own all-weather lifeboats in-house for the first time. The facility's design comprises two main building areas connected by a central courtyard with 5,000m2 of workshop floor space. It will bring together on one site the RNLI's all-weather lifeboat production, maintenance and refit activities.
