REFURBISHMENT OF GREENVALE LEISURE CENTRE AT MAGHERAFELT

The Olympics are still a vivid memory for everyone and for those of us who were not directly affected by them we may have the Olympic legacy to look forward to-that is what is left behind after the games have come and gone. Magherafelt is a Council which wants to be able to provide facilities for those with potential, with an eye towards future games. It was with this in mind that they have built the first indoor sports facility in Northern Ireland, with a full sized football pitch, a full sized hockey pitch, four 5-a-side pitches which are used for basketball, netball and four badminton courts, four tennis courts and a full sized 300m indoor running track at Meadowbank Sports Arena, and nowthe first 50m,Olympic distance, swimming pool in Northern Ireland at the newly redeveloped Greenvale Leisure Centre. Magherafelt see themselves as pioneering benefactors of community based training facilities, developing potential Olympic athletes of the future.
