The effects of irrigation water salinity on the soil and on some physiological and productive parameters of fat round bean (cv. Taylor's Horticultural) for fresh consumption were studied. As the salinity of irrigation water increased, a progressivesoil salinization and sodification were observed despite the application of the 'leaching requirement'. Irrigating with water of different electrical conductivity levels pointed out a high bean sensitivity to salinity resulting in a net photosynthesis reduction from the start of pod formation to the start of wax-ripe stage, equal to over 70% when irrigating with water characterized by an EC of 4 dS/m and to 9% only if irrigating with tap water. The maximum irrigation water salinity that still allowed agood bean production ranged from 2 to 4 dS/m.
