摘要

Glass is one of the most important materials in modern architecture, used to form external facades or create open internal partitions. Ensuring adequate fire protection is a vital consideration for both glazing system manufacturers and specifiers. Throughout the years, glass has given designers the ability to create reality from concept with contemporary advances in technology allowing far greater freedom in glazing design than ever before, whilst still maintaining safety characteristics in case of fire. There are two ways to incorporate fire protection into the design of a building - active, such as sprinkler systems, and passive, under which category fire resistant glazing falls. Every new building has to incorporate strategic fire protection measures in order to comply with Building Regulations, approved documents and British Standards BS 476 Part 22:1987, and today's glazing systems are versatile enough to comply with these stringent requirements without compromising any aesthetic design parameters.
