Emergency lighting is one of the essential life safety systems required to be provided by an owner or occupant of premises that is a place of work. The system should, if correctly designed, installed and maintained, reduce the possibility of an accident or loss of life in the event of an electrical power loss. Under EN 50172 - 4.1 Emergency Lighting is needed: To indicate clearly and unambiguously the escape routes To provide illumination along such routes to allow safe movements towards and through the exits provided To ensure that fire alarm call points and fire fighting equipment provided along escape routes can be readily located and used To permit operations concerned with safety measures.
