WHAT A WASH OUT!

Only the August of 1912 beats the awful weather we've had this August; here's hoping it's another 90 odd years until the next one. The weather seems to be a subject that pops up in most conversations; it is always the source of a grumble, but I like the changeable weather. How boring to wake up every morning to sunshine! It's the uncertainty of it all, waking up to heavy grey skies, going out dressed to cope with whatever the sky throws at you, and then having to peel off the layers every few steps as the sun comes out. That's fine, pardon the pun, you'll probably say - but it's not much fun on site in the depths of winter with the rain falling around. Like it or not we are all now working in a technological age, although it's unlikely the computer will ever completely replace the mobility and judgement of a human. However, computers, in one form or another, are playing increasingly important roles in almost all walks of life, including construction. The technologies,, available within, and to, the construction industry are many, varied and increasing. Some are simple and others by their very nature are complex, and some have been around for a while, often only in the larger organisations. This has now changed and much of the technology is available to most companies in one way or another. Much of the information we produce, send, receive, respond to, submit or approve has been paper-based, for example: plans, calculations, letters, forms, reports, records or artist's impressions.
