Canadian cellphone carriers launch recycling program

Cellphone users in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador can now recycle their old cellphones for free thanks to a partnership between major cell phone carriers, handset manufacturers and processors. The Recycle My Cell program, which had been in operation as a voluntary service since 2009, recently received the green light from the government to become the official recycling program of Canada's easternmost province. The program has "recovered almost 22,000 wireless devices" to date, according to a press release, and will be managed by Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA).
