WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAMME

摘要

Maharashtra state is the third largest state in the country having total geographical area of 30.8 Mha. and culturable area of 20.8 Mha. The rainfall varies from 400 mm in rainshadow area to 6000 mm in high rainfall areas like Konkan. Almost one third area of the state is drought prone. The average rainfall is slightly above 1000 mm. The state is divided precisely into nine Agro-climatic zones. However, broadly it can be divided into three broad zones.
