For the purpose of this article, the 2008 NEC and 2006 IMC codes were used as the basis for references. In today's buildings, you can typically find a wide range of electronic equipment, including security cameras, audiovisual (AV) projectors, wireless access joints, and ceiling-mounted speakers, hanging from the ceiling or placed above a suspended ceiling in any number of places. Due to its relatively concealed nature, however, the space above the ceiling can often become a playground for improperly installed devices, their connections, and accessories. The age-old saying "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" definitely applies to this inconspicuous area.
