Because Art. 800 has its roots in telephone technology, it addresses telephone and related systems that use twisted-pair wiring. The telephone utility typically provides the twisted-pair cable to a terminal board. This board usually is part of an assembly referred to as the network interface device (NID). Normally, you will find the NID at the "point of entrance" (Sidebar on page 56). Wiring from that point forward falls within the scope of Art. 800.
