If you think subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) for turf is doable - you're right. But it's not easy, nor is it applicable in every situation. Increasingly, SDI is being used to irrigate turfgrass in the U.S. This covert irrigation method has been designed and installed for turf in U.S. public contracts for at least 15 years. Various spacings and flow rates have been tried over the years to define and then refine the best coverage opportunity for SDI. SDI's target is the turf's active "feeding area" -- the total potential rootzone -- because roots cannot grow through dry soil, nor can they sense the presence of water from a distance.
