Climate change and the extremes of weather that the UK has experienced in the last few years mean our environment is more vulnerable than ever. Floods are becoming a regular occurrence and, because of the large number of brownfield sites being redeveloped, there is a need for a very carefully considered approach to flood alleviation. 2007 saw floods costing the UK economy around ￡3.2bn. It is, therefore, little wonder that building engineers and developers are addressing the options and looking at what can be done to protect premises and people.
