I thank the Association of Building Engineers for considering me worthy of the Peter Stone Award and am delighted to see members of his family here today. Looking at the names of my illustrious predecessors and their achievements I'm highly honoured that my contributions to building engineering are felt to be comparable. Having allegedly retired many years ago, I'm amazed that one's efforts over a long period are still remembered. I'm indeed grateful to the Association and their Adjudication Panel for theaward, which will remain a treasured possession. Together with other professional engineers, architects and surveyors, I'm privileged to belong to the fraternity of building engineering. The.Association is to be congratulated as the first professional institution to incorporate the term 'building engineers'into its title, in 1993. Other institutions may feel that they, too, could have gone that way-you simply got there first!
