WHAT DIFFERENCE HAS IPPC MADE TO THE EUROPEAN FLAT GLASS INDUSTRY?

The current status of the BREF is reviewed, and areas of disagreement between flat glass industry representatives and regulators are indicated. The paper includes comments on the effect of the BREF in CO_2 reduction, on the role of DG Environment, and on different national priorities. Against this background, the effects of the BREF are shown in terms of tougher standards but better co-operation between competitors. However, local circumstances will prevail, so the playing field will still not be level.
